Many people rely on a big cup of coffee in the afternoon to put them back on track after half day at the office and the (sometimes not-that-nurturing) lunch, without knowing that caffeine is really just a band aid approach to sustainable energy.
Don’t get me wrong, I love coffee, but I can always predict that rise in energy, that can only go in one direction-and that’s down! What the body is truly craving are nutritionally dense foods and drinks, that help to keep balanced energy across the day.
With that in mind, I’ve blended some of the top superfoods into this vegan hot chocolate. If you’re not already supplementing on maca powder, then there’s no time like the present to jump on board! Maca is a go-to superfood to increase energy, balance hormones and increase cognitive health.
You’ll also get a potent hit of nutrients in this golden powder! You’ll find over twenty amino acids, which includes all the essential ones necessary for optimal function.
Maca has been classed as an adaptogen, meaning it has the ability to work with the body to handle stress levels. This truly shows the power of nature!
You’ll find multiple nutrients like magnesium, zinc, copper and magnesium and also a string of vitamins from B to C and E. For all these reasons, maca has stood out as one of my all-time favorite superfoods!
Chia seeds are packed full of disease-fighting antioxidants, which in studies have been shown to be powerful enough to prevent cancer cells from multiplying, and even halting their growth all together.
A diet rich in antioxidants is absolutely vital for getting by in our modern-day society, where disease is rampant. Chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, support healthy digestion through their fiber content and promote glowing skin and hair.
Another staple in my diet has to be cacao powder, again due to the incredibly high levels of antioxidants. Being the raw form of chocolate, all nutrients remain intact, including high levels of iron, magnesium and calcium.
Along with a boost in energy, cacao has also been shown in studies to boost overall mood, to really get you on a high!
Ultimately, all of the superfoods contained in this vegan hot chocolate contribute to the natural detoxification process in our bodies, replenishing the nutrients stock and supporting a balanced energy production for the rest of the day.
