Who doesn’t want radiant skin?! There are a lot of factors that contribute to that natural, healthy glow – or rather, than contribute to stripping us of it. The mostly obvious external factors include air pollutants, the environment, the weather, sun exposure, the type of products you use, and so on. Internal factors include the consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other harmful products, also hormonal changes, but most importantly, the type of nutrition – or lack thereof – that you include in your diet.
The good news is that it’s really easy to take control of the nutritional aspect of achieving radiant skin, especially with recipes such as this Kale and Pineapple Smoothie. Exercise definitely helps too, along with eating organic foods whenever possible, and making sure you stay hydrated by drinking lots of (spring or filtered) water. A vegan diet also contributes to nourishing your skin on an ongoing basis by eliminating the hormones, pesticides and bacteria that animal products carry.
We’re all busy these days with so much on the go, rushing here and there, squeezing as much as we can into every 24 hours – while also trying to get some sleep! That, by the way, is another factor that plays a part in healthy, glowing skin – getting enough quality rest. They don’t call it “beauty sleep” for nothing! Your body naturally boosts blood flow to the skin while you’re blissfully unaware, so keep that in mind as well.
Back to being busy, and sometimes struggling to find the time to whip up a nutritious meal or snack to keep your body healthy and give your skin that burst of radiance – enter the smoothie! It seriously doesn’t get much easier than this: blend and drink. A great time saver is having your pineapple already chopped and in the freezer.
I usually set aside some time on the weekends to shop for, chop and freeze my fruit into smoothie portions to just grab and pop into the blender on week day mornings (or any other time, really). Another handy tip is to freeze your kale as well. Simply blend until smooth with a little water (enough to get the blender blades going), pour into ice trays and freeze, then what I do is portion the kale cubes into freezer bags and you’re good to go.
Kale gives your skin a healthy dose of vitamins A, C and K, helping to repair the tissues underneath your skin and preventing damage from those pesky free radicals, also helping to get rid of those dark under eye circles, while contributing to the prevention of premature aging of your skin. Pineapple increases collagen synthesis (the process of collagen creation) which helps to keep your skin firm and flexible. You can even put fresh pineapple directly onto your skin for more of these benefits.
I’d say that’s a winning combination right there, not to mention the other superfood ingredients, so get cracking on your radiant skin routine!
